The Proposal Put Forward by Russia and China to Restore Peace in the Middle East

The ongoing war in the Middle East has shaken global politics, prompting world leaders to step up diplomatic efforts. In this context, Russia has announced its intention to mediate in order to secure a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict involving Iran and neighboring countries.

At a time of deep instability, the kind of diplomacy that once enabled nations to pull back from the brink of war appears to be losing its effectiveness. The growing entanglement between state and non-state actors, combined with the proliferation of deadly weapons, has pushed the world dangerously close to the edge. It is from this realization that several influential countries have come together in an effort to halt the ongoing war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Russia is leading the initiative, while major powers such as China and Turkey are reportedly eager to join the effort.

Russia has formally declared its readiness to mediate with the goal of ending the conflict in Iran and surrounding countries through political and diplomatic means. In a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow expressed deep concern over the continuing hostilities in the Persian Gulf region. The statement noted that the scale of damage to Iran and neighboring Arab states — including their energy sectors and other critical infrastructure — is steadily increasing. For this reason, Russia says it wants the war brought to an end as quickly as possible.

The statement also placed responsibility on the Trump administration, arguing that the war was triggered by provocative aggression from the United States and Israel against Iran. According to Moscow, the first step toward restoring peace would be for Washington and Tel Aviv to immediately cease hostilities.

Russia further stated that it is prepared to work with China, Turkey, and other like-minded partners to help resolve the crisis. It added that the legitimate interests of all states would be best protected if current disputes were addressed through political and diplomatic channels and if stability in the Middle East could be preserved.

Moscow also said that proposals put forward by Oman’s foreign minister are consistent with Russia’s broader vision for building a balanced regional security framework in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf. Endorsing Oman’s position, Russia said regional dialogue should begin on issues such as transparency in the nuclear energy sector, mutual security guarantees, and confidence-building measures.

In addition, Moscow reiterated its long-standing call for a collective security framework aimed at fostering lasting peace and cooperative relations among Middle Eastern countries. The statement concluded by saying that Russia would continue to offer constructive support in pursuit of a sustainable resolution to the conflict and in safeguarding the legitimate interests of all states involved.
